My experience with Google Dance

Recently I found some unique pattern of my website traffic which is drop for several days. Some of my friend told me that it’s normal, and caused by what so called Google Dance.
Google dance refers to the period of time when Google indices are tuned. This will often cause both a fluctuation in index size as well a significant change in a web site’s search result position.
Based on my experience the Google Dance will decrease my website traffic up to 80% from normal traffic. So if my website daily traffic is around 100 unique visits. Then during the Google dance the traffic is only around 20-30. This situation will be happen around 2-3 weeks. Usually it’s happen to every new sites which under 6 month old.
However in the real life there is a lot of cases about Google Dance. In some forum I found some websites that have unusual traffic for each 3 month. And in the others resources I read that the major Google index update occurred on average every 36 days or 10 times per year.
Have you ever been in this situation? My suggestion is don’t panic. Just wait around 2-3 week watching the traffic come back. Yes, in the search engine optimization, result pages are very important, but watching the pattern is also more important.
