What do I learn from big Mining Corporation?

Filed under: Career, Life — Tags: — admin @ 10:20 pm

Dump Truck
Back from Sangatta, East Kalimantan for a week site visit to the largest coal open pit mining in the world, I feel that a lot of lesson that I learned from this company. Here are several lessons that I got

1. Always focus
The coal company has a very large mining concession with the government, so big that maybe it takes more than 40 years to dig the coal deposit from one pit -ok just imagine that each year this company produces more than 40 million cubic of coal -just like I said before, it is the largest in the world.

The mining strategy is to dig the coal with the maximum reachable technology and mechanism -as fast as possible and only stop when the deposit already empty. Yes perhaps you can say it is greed. However miner never thinks like that, since they responsible to renovate or rehabilitate the pit after mining processing over.

2. Always improve
When you have your own mine site, maybe your concern is just as simple as dig fast and move fast -most of the mine concession is limited by time and location. Mining mechanism especially coal is very simple, by using excavator, dump truck (Liebher T282, Euclid Hitachi, Caterpillar 797 or just Komatsu) and complex conveyor control. And sometimes you will loose your time for improvement.

So what do I learn is, even with the very limited time, budget or everything you should spend some money or invest some thing for your development. (more…)

Happy Birthday Drupal

Filed under: Drupal — admin @ 10:18 pm

“…When I started work on Drupal as a graduate student, Drupal was just a little hobby project grown out of my own interest in the web. As you can tell from the original release notes, being the only programmer certainly had its charms. ;-)

Fast forward 8 years, and we’re a global project with hundreds of thousands of users, thousands of active contributors and a healthy ecosystem. Along the way, I’ve always tried to listen to the community, and to trust my own instincts and moral compass. We built an amazing community together, and because of that, working on Drupal continues to be a labor of love. Even after eight years…”

Captain Chesley B. Sullenberger III

Filed under: On this day — admin @ 4:50 pm

After logging some 19,000 hours of acclaimed but anonymous service in the skies, Chesley B. Sullenberger III became a hero in a New York minute. On Jan. 15, the pilot, known as “Sully,” safely guided all 155 passengers and crew aboard US Airways Flight 1549 to an emergency water landing in the city’s frigid Hudson River after the Airbus A320’s twin engines apparently shut down after sucking in a flock of birds. New York Governor David Paterson hailed his exploits as the “miracle on the Hudson.”
Time.com

True miracle at Hudson River, when an Airbus 320 airplane performs an emergency landing into Hudson River. However this miracle also happens in Indonesia at 2002 when a Garuda Airplane also landing into water. Pilot Mohammad Rozak also able to perform that. However What Sullenberger perform is much more incredible since it happen on huge and crowded city in the US.

Drupal 5 or Drupal 6?

Filed under: Drupal — admin @ 8:08 pm

Off course Drupal 5. Why? here is my reason:

1. Drupal still maintain the Drupal 5 version
This is the main difference between other CMS. Wordpress for example if WP release their newer system then the older system is no longer supported, and people encouraged to move to newer system. However Drupal maintain the 5 and 6 version at paralel update. So right now you can download the latest Drupal 5.12 and Drupal 6.6 version. Both of 2 version were amazing.

2. Drupal 5 has more complete modules
Yes, there are still some of Drupal 5 modules that need to be re-programmed so it can be used for Drupal 6.

3. Drupal 5 has more case study
Since people already use it long before Drupal 6, then you can see a lot of case study and project that still use Drupal 5.

4. Drupal 5 is more simple and fast
I did not like a lot of AJAX programming in Drupal 6, I prefer what Drupal 5 simplicity concept. Its simple and strong.

Any more suggestions?
